Dr. J. Bernard “Bernie” Machen is President of the University of Florida in Gainesville. He previously served as President of the University of Utah, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan, Dean of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Associate Dean of the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, and President of the American Association of Dental Schools (now the American Dental Education Association). Dr. Machen earned his D.D.S. degree from St. Louis University and his M.S. (pediatric dentistry) and Ph.D. (educational psychology) degrees from the University of Iowa.
